Once Upon a Mattress

“Once Upon a Mattress” is a musical comedy based on the fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea,” where a mischievous Queen prevents her son, Prince Dauntless, from marrying by subjecting potential brides to impossible tests, until a wild and unconventional swamp princess named Winnifred arrives and challenges the Queen’s plans with her unique spirit and resilience, ultimately proving her royal worth through a “mattress test” with a hidden pea underneath layers of bedding; the story is full of humor and satire as the kingdom eagerly awaits the Prince’s marriage so they can wed themselves.
